This is pathetic.
"Doug Christie is the last man one would expect to pull a refuse-to-report
trick.Long admired for his class and work ethic, including during all those
leadership seasons with the Kings, Christie's sudden situation in Orlando
comes as a real shocker.
It's too late for the Magic to trade him, and the team isn't likely to buy
out his contract, which has this season and next left. Christie's immense
disappointment for being relocated has crashed like an anvil.
When he didn't report to practice, shootaround or Friday night's game - he
called in sick - his Magic teammates, former Kings coaches and ex-running
mates were stunned.
Christie was the cover subject of this month's Magic Monthly, with the
headline "Fitting in." Truth is, he never has. He has been replaced in the
starting lineup by rookie Jameer Nelson, Christie's minutes have been
slashed - he played in five, 12 and six minutes in games that followed - and
he can't watch Kings games on television without becoming emotional.
Said teammate Steve Francis to Orlando reporters: "If it's the case of him
not being able to handle the trade, I would feel the same way. They traded
for him and brought him here to play, and he's not playing. I'd be (upset)
myself. If that's the way he feels, I have no problem with that. But it's my
job to keep my teammates happy and looking forward and not getting
sidetracked. We're at a crucial point where we need everybody. Doug has been
in the league long enough and knows exactly what he's doing." >> Stay informed about: Suck it up, be a man! |

I feel bad for the guy.
<begin flaming>
No really. Most King's fans liked him while he was here and he's obviously
in shock. He played with heart and drive in every King's game. Well, maybe
except when he was afraid...
When the Kings traded Corliss for him some Raptor fans warned us that he was
a 'bad apple' so to speak. But as a King he was the consummate professional
and team-player. Jackie of course was trouble; her actions brought a certain
amount of ridicule and derision, not to mention lawsuits. It's a sad
situation AND his value is plummeting. I wonder if Jackie understands this?

likely not entirely. it's the sad shame spiral of a player who is now "old"
by NBA standards. your value is declining but you're making relatively a
lot of money so you're gonna get kicked around. just ask shaq, payton,
webber, etc.
that's the biz...

in his mind at least he was. the lakers were fudging on an extension, it
was clear that he was no longer the #1 priority to the team (probably
rightfully so).
to a superstar like shaq, who has unquestionably been the #1 guy ALWAYS
since high school, it's usually tough to take.

I wasn't around (ASBNL-L that is) when that trade went down but I still
simply cannot fathom why the Lakers traded Shaq and not Kobe. When Geoff
traded Webber some obervers pointed out that it's better, generally
speaking, to trade a player too early than too late. But does that apply to
the Diesel?

Shaq was fat and out of shape. He had to be traded. If he had stayed in
shape the Lakers would have two more Championships. And he would still be a
Laker. He may get Miami one, but that's only because he has something to
prove.
It was time for him to go. I don't believe the Heat have gave him his
extension yet. They want the ring first.

Actually it was Moe Green who slapped Fredo Corleone (aka Lounge Lizard)
around:
MOE:
Yeah -- let's talk business, Mike. First of all, you're all done. The
Corleone Family don't even
have that kind of muscle anymore. The Godfather's sick, right? You're
getting chased out of
New York by Barzini and the other Families -- What do you think is going on
here? You
think you can come to my hotel and take over? -- I talked to Barzini -- I
can make a deal
with him, and still keep my hotel!
MICHAEL:
Is that why you slapped my brother around in public?

I don't remember exactly, but 3 years? And a whole lot of money. I think
it would have taken him to 36 (yr old).

part of it might have been that shaq demanded a trade while kobe always
maintained that he wanted to stay in l.a.
another part might be that shaq makes about five million more per year
and he's on the downside of his career while kobe's just hitting his
prime.
the sad part is that they couldn't continue to co-exist on the same
team.

Disturbing lack of appreciation for the greatest movie ever
made. The challenge to the manhood of the lounge lizard
weeping about his poor career was Vito Corleone to Johnny
Fontaine during Carlo and Connie's wedding. Moe Green
(off-camera) merely slapped Fredo around because he was
inept, not because he was a sissy. >> Stay informed about: Suck it up, be a man! |
