Both clubs were playing extremely hard, and I think their successes and
problems came back to the same thing. The Magic were hyped and working
really hard to get good shots, but they also ended up forcing too many
passes and dribbling out of control. The Pistons worked really hard to
stay in control, and took much better care of the ball, but they also ended
up slow on offense to get into position and took bad shots.
At any rate, the Pistons pulled out another tough win and get to rest.
Stuckey was solid, and fantastic for a rookie. If he develops a strong
medium/long range jump shot, he'll be amazing. McDyess was excellent,
Prince was scary defensively, and I hope his bad shooting was just a
temporary glitch.
One thing this pointed up again, of course, was the Wallace isn't a true
center and can't possibly keep up with a true center like Howard. Just
look at the difference in points they scored! >> Stay informed about: Tuesday Win |

Detroit won, despite shooting 36% or thereabouts. They took something
like 19 more shots than did the Magic, made one fewer shot, and made
fewer threes. But the turnovers and missed FTs killed Orlando, and
Detroit made some big plays when they had to. The opponent next round
will be tougher and they will have to shoot better, but hey, the
Pistons did all this with a rookie PG filling in for Chauncey, so they
deserve a rest. -- Joe >> Stay informed about: Tuesday Win |

I'm not sure you can use the points they scored as a measuring stick.
Orlando relies more on Howard getting points than Detroit relies on
Rasheed getting points. And Rasheed did hit several very nice jumpers
from the side over Howard. Also, Pistons during the entire series did
not have Rasheed playing Howard exclusively, so, again, you cannot
measure his "center" abilities. And let's face it, Rasheed is not a
conventional center anyway. Never has been, never will be, yet going
by PPG, Rasheed is 13th among all centers in the NBA. Of centers
still in the playoffs only Cleveland's Ilgauskas was higher by 2 ppg.
Rebounds per game? Rasheed is 25th among all centers in the NBA and
there are 6 centers still in the playoffs that are ranked higher but
that is not really a knock on Rasheed. Detroit gets rebounds from
McDyess and others.

Jeez, Skip, I was joking -- one of Anita's constant inane fixations was
that the Pistons were in trouble because Wallace was not a "true" center.
Not as insane as his posing as a cheerleader obsessed with Martians and the
mummy's curse, but still pretty wack.
The reason I brought up points scored last night was because Wallace the
"untrue" center scored the same 14 points that Howard the "true" center
scored -- that is, the whole thing about whether Wallace exactly fits some
preconcieved notion completely misses a lot of bigger points.
By the way, I forgot to bring up one of the big improvements for the
Pistons last night -- Billup's sportcoat was a much, much better choice
than what he wore on Saturday. >> Stay informed about: Tuesday Win |

Ouch...my bad. I didn't catch the humor.

I kind of liked the one he wore on Saturday but the other was nicer.
At least he doesn't dress like Craig Sager.

I'm noticing a trend with NBA players wearing jackets like that so
maybe it's "in style" now. But every time I see one I'm snickering at
them. >> Stay informed about: Tuesday Win |
