After a few years of being the Ugly Stepsister, UCLA looks like it has a chance
to get to the dance. Today Ashlee Trebilcock verballed for the class of 2005.
Peterson and Plumier have verballed for the class of 2005, however, some
problems are starting. During the soft recruiting years, Kathy Olivier started
signing anyone available. Some of the poor signings were Pickett, Johnson
(since transferred to Alabama), Oren and Zaidi. Because of that, they only
have four scholarships to give and only two remaining for this class. They
badly want Wiggins and Houston, but now comes word that Foristall is ready to
commit. Foristall got some incredible ink from her work at the Nike camp (and
I think she's been highly praised from contributors to this n.g.) and you don't
turn a player like that away. But the chances of Wiggins and Houston signing
also look very good. UCLA needs a true post but Wiggins could turn out to be
the best player of this class.
Many, many outstanding players wanting UCLA but not enough space. Right now, I
say sign Foristall and hope for Wiggins. Stanford fans smugly suggested that
Quinn was rejected from their admissions boards and signed at UCLA as a second
choice. Wiggins doesn't have as high a GPA as Quinn but has said on numerous
occasions that Stanford is her first choice.
The bigger question becomes what Kathy Olivier will do with this talent.
