I wouldn't say the "WNBA has failed miserably". You're right that the WNBA
is supposed "to be for and about women" and that is still true because the
last time I checked, 100% of the players are women. Strictly speaking the
WNBA is advancing women's basketball, with or without women coaches. Look at
the NFL, there are a lot of black players but how many black coaches or
quarterbacks are there? Very little, I think. The WNBA is relatively young
and as players get older and retire, I think many of them will go into
coaching and the number of women coaches will increase. You just have to
give it time. Personally, I follow the Sacramento Monarchs and our top
player is Yo Griffith. She's 35 years old and obviously nearing retirement
and she says she really really want to get into coaching. I don't have any
stats but I wonder how many women coaches there are in NCAA D1 Women's
basketball?
