I fervently hope that the Fever brain trust takes a pass on Isciss Tillis, and
Kelly Mazzante and grabs Kaayla Chones. That girl has some skills. Right now
she's my choice for WNBA rookie of the year.

The other "sleeper" is Chandi Jones from Houston.

I also think Erika Valek is going to do well at the lext level.

Any other low profile picks out there?

Can't agree on Valek. I doubt she will get drafted. I would definitely
tak Mazzante over Chones who is too small to compete down low.

Guess we'll have to agree to diagree on Valek. If she were any position except
point guard I'd agree with you - but at least 10 WNBA could really use a back
up point guard, and many need one.

Who's Mazzante going to guard in the WNBA?

I like Mazzante, Whalen and Wright out of the big-10. There are so
many other great players too.( Beard, Taurasi,Carey, Stephens, Thomas,
Powell, Tillis ect.) I think that for Valek to get drafted, she needs
to finish the season strong and prove that she deserves to get
drafted. She is a solid PG but is very small. Does anybody have the
1996-1998 Final Fours taped? If you would be willing to make copies
for me, send me an email at barryi.DeleteThis@mail.com and we would work out the
costs of everything. Thanks, Barry

how could any scout or reporter look past chandi jones? she's an incredible
scoring machine. she fast AND quick; she's a star--and she knows it. jones
won't be a "sleeper" for very long after she suits up in the WNBA,
that's certain.

That's why I put "sleeper" in quotations, IMHO she's as close a thing to a lock
for WNBA. But for some reason, she's not getting any pub. and teams don't seem
to be talking too much about her.

I seem to recall that Van Chancellor was asked for his top 5 draft prospects of
the class of 04 during some college game and he just came up with the usual
suspects:

Taurosi, Ohlde, Mazzante, Powell, Whalen

Well Peter, the Gm of the Fever sure doesn't agree with you...she'd
prefer to have Kelly MIller at the 2 then pick Chandi with the third
pick.
GMs in the WNBA are thinking maybe Chandi won't be so effective when
guarded by professional players. I personally think Indiana was nuts
to pass on her, but they obviously were not as impressed as us fans
are.

The Fever just signed Kate Starbird as well.

Kate Starbird?

Could that be the Lin Dunn influence? Did she pay them? I'm starting to feel
very uneasy about this management.

I dunno. I never saw Starbird at her peak in the ABL, where I have read she
was a very effective scorer. I never saw anything in the WNBA that would
lead me to believe that she would help the Fever. Lin Dunn was her coach in
the ABL, right? So you might think she would know how to get the best from
her. On the other hand, didn't Starbird play for Dunn in Seattle? She
wasn't very effective there.

Starbird started to look good when she arrived at Seattle...but then
Dunn left and she was blowin' in the wind again. I'm sure this must be
the Dunn factor.

Does anybody know what happened to Kristin Folkl? All I know is that
she used to play PF for Minnesota but she didn't play last year. Did
she go back to volleyball or quit sports? Just wondering what happened
to the old great.
