CAMBRIDGE, Mass. The Penn womens basketball team fell victim to a
hot-shooting Harvard squad that pulled away in the second half to
deal the Quakers a 77-58 loss on Friday evening at the Lavietes Pavilion.
The Quakers (4-19, 2-8 Ivy) never recuperated from a 12-4 early second half
run by the Crimson (10-13, 6-4 Ivy), who scored 44 points while shooting
53.6 percent from the field in the second stanza.
In the first half, it was all Monica Naltner and Joey Rhoads for Penn, as
the two scored all but four of the Quakers 28 points.
Penn jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first five minutes on the strength
of two of Rhoads four first half three-pointers.
After another Rhoads trey gave the Quakers an 18-14 lead at the 11:10
mark, the Crimson went on a 16-4 run that gave them a 30-22 advantage.
Baskets by Naltner and Brilynne Parrish, plus two foul shots by Rhoads
with 4.7 seconds left made the score 33-28, Harvard, at the half.
But the Crimson quickly put the game out of reach in the second half,
as their 12-4 run was keyed by a four-point play by Laura Robinson.
The Quakers would not come within 12 points of the lead for the rest
of the contest.
Rhoads finished with a game-high 21 points while Naltner added 10 points,
six rebounds and four assists for the Quakers. Penn freshman Katarina
Lackner notched a career-high 10 points to outscore her sister Christiana,
a junior forward for Harvard, who had seven points for the Crimson.
The Quakers travel up to Hanover, N.H., on Saturday night to take on
Dartmouth at 7 p.m.
