Quakers defeat Big Green, 71-58, to take sole possession of first
place in the Ancient Eight at 5-0.

Feb. 7, 2004

HANOVER, N.H. -- The Dartmouth women's basketball team (11-7, 4-1 Ivy)
saw its seven-game winning streak come to end as Penn (11-6, 5-0) handed
the Big Green its first Ivy loss, 71-58, before a crowd of 1,583 on Saturday
evening at Leede Arena. Jeannie Cullen hit eight three-pointers to tie her
own school record, a mark she shares with Courtney Banghart '00. Cullen
finished with 26 points and nine rebounds and Elise Morrison added 19 points
and five rebounds. Jewel Clark scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to
lead four Penn players in double figures. Jennifer Fleischer also recorded
a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards and Amanda Kammes recorded a
game-high 10 assists.

After Fleischer made a layup at 12:04 of the first half, Penn held a 20-8 lead.
The Big Green responded with a 12-3 spurt to narrow the gap to 23-20 when Morrison
hit a layup at 7:45. A Cullen three-pointer made it a 29-27 game with 1:41 left in
the period. Penn led 33-28 at the break after outshooting the Big Green, 43.3
percent to 31.3 percent in the half. The Quakers extended the lead to 10 points
on a layup by Clark with 15:17 left. The Big Green cut the lead down to five
points on three occasions, including a 55-50 deficit after a Cullen three-pointer
at 6:08. Dartmouth made only one field goal in the next five minutes and trailed by
12 points with 1:12 left. Another long distance bomb from Cullen and a layup by
Morrison cut the gap to seven points with 51 seconds left, but Penn made six free
throws down the stretch to take the 71-58 victory and sole possession of first
place in the Ivy League.
