Nice (surprising) win tonight. Saw only the last quarter and a half,
but wow. Much better on the boards tonight.

I really like what I see in Craig Smith. They guy is a gamer. Not
only is he a bruiser inside, but he also has a nice offensive game.
Props to Mchale for finding a diamond in the rough.

I haven't seen KG this enthused in a long time. All the bonding stuff
he did this offseason with teammates really paid off. Guys like Davis
and Blount are playing team oriented basketball, and KG's new
leadership has a lot to do with it.

Blount is doing a decent job on the boards.

Nice to see Mike James have a good game.

A lot of positives after two games.

I'm still miffed at why Casey isn't playing EG and Reed more. Also,
I'd like to see Foye get some more minutes. He's only going to learn
if he's on the floor.

Maybe it was because EddieG was -15 in his 12 minutes.
Nene was kicking butt in the 2nd quarter.

And (unfortunately, to me) since Reed and Smith are playing
the substitute PF role, Smith's stupendous 20 points in 16 minutes
(-3 overall) probably ensured extended PineTime for Reed .

the offense looked stagnant, and Troy`s decision making is shaky.
But they are playing with enthusiasm.

Maybe they are tying to build up Jaric's and Hudson's stock. Especially
Hudson before he gets injured again. I expect to see them traded as soon
as Mchale can make a good deal.

Smith is a beast. Awesome pick up by McHale.

Yes a good 2nd round pick, it had to happen. Even a broken clock is
right twice a day.
I still think Blount should sit, and by playing Reed and Smith at PF,
or in tandem as C and PF, you'd get more production on the boards that
Blount.

According to Jim Petersen during last night's broadcast
of the Portland game, it's Zarko Durisic, the Wolves' "Director
of Player Personnel " who gets credit for Craig Smith. You don't
really think McHale's that smart now, do you?

Blount is Blount, but he's far more effective than the
alternative "Bad Eddie". I still think Smith would be
just an awesome force at SF.

Who has final authority? Are most GMs the first to scout a player?

I know your anti-McHale, but every once in a while try giving people
you don't like their just due.

The question is whether it's McHale's just due or not. I have no idea,
personally. But it's certainly not out of line for someone to suggest
that McHale might not be due all of the credit.

With your "the buck stops with McHale" analysis of the Joe Smith deal,
it's surprising you'd chirp in with that comment. Well, not really . .
..

Props to Durisic for his scouting acumen (although I suspect the fact
that McHale watched him play in 2002-03 and came away impressed also
has something to do with it), Popovich gets the credit for making picks
such as Ginobli and Parker, although he relies on some of the best
foreign scouting in the business. Same rule applies here.

If we are to believe Levi's comments after the draft (that Casey did
not want Smith, which could be causing friction between coach and GM),
props to McHale for ignoring Casey and still taking Smith.

Casey wanted a center - duh. That glaring need is still
there.

Props to McHale for not listening to Casey . . .I'd rather have Smith.

Read my post again. "I have no idea personally" and "it's certianly not
out of line for someone to suggest that McHale might not be due ALL of
the credit" are two highlights to consider.

I've added emphasis to the word "all" as you seem to have missed it the
first time through.

I read it just fine the first time. If memory serves, you placed the
blame squarely on McHale's big shoulders, since he was the GM.

It was his fault. He was the baskeball mind of the group. You don't
blame Taylor because he isn't necessarily supposed to know better. He
hires people to counsel him on that kind of thing.

McHale either didn't, or counseled him abysmally. Either way, the Joe
Smith fiasco was his fault. This is an entirely different situation. I
understand that in your mind you've worked them out to be the exact
same, but they're just not.
