The Mavericks went out with a bang in the ratings if not on the court.
Tuesday's season-ending loss in Game 6 of the NBA Finals scored an all-time
high 39.6 rating for the Mavericks in Dallas-Fort Worth, shattering the
two-day-old record of 36.0.
That means an average of 911,000 homes watched every minute of the 95-92
loss to the Heat on Ch. 8. The ratings peaked in the fourth quarter at 46.3,
which translates into approximately 1,065,000 homes. Each ratings point
represents one percent of D-FW's 2.3 million homes with televisions.
The Heat's championship clinching victory scored a more modest 33.3 rating
in Miami-Fort Lauderdale.
D-FW showed more interest in the NBA Finals throughout the series. It
averaged a 34.6 rating compared to a 27.1 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale.
The Mavericks broke their hometown ratings record five times in the six
games. The highest rating the Mavericks achieved before their Finals
appearance was a 19.9 for Game 6 of the 2003 Western Conference Finals
against San Antonio.
