It's safe to say this is a different team. I think last year's team
would have been 1-2 at this point.

Whether this is a better team than last year's overall is still in
question though. The lack of depth might make Sam's job easier when it
comes to rotations, but when a few bench injuries pop up minutes for the
starters become a concern.

They got away with running Bosh and Calderon into the ground on Saturday
because the next game isn't until Wed. On a West Coast road trip they won't
have that kind of luxury.

Last year they started the season in love with the jump shot. But the
great thing was they kept falling in, so they won a bunch of games
they shouldn't have because they were being outrebounded like nuts.
Then they started missing and the losses started piling up. They were
burned repeated because of horrible perimeter defense.

To me this is still the same team, they just got lucky with a very
easy schedule.

You saw these games right? Both Philly and Golden State shot poorly
(I didn't see the Milwaukee game), but they had many wide open looks.
It was more the case of a team with cold shooting than Toronto's
defense. They shot themselves in the foot.

Wide open shots = bad defense. -12 rebounding differential = bad
rebounding.

It's only a matter of time before these weaknesses are exposed. Until
then, let's just enjoy all the 82-0 talk.

First three opponent's FG% - 34.5, 44.7 and 44.4. That doesn't happen if
the Raptors were playing bad defence. Philly and Golden State are both good
teams. Admittedly GS didn't have it's starting PG available, but they'd
still be a playoff team in the East.

Milwaukee may not be great, but they caused the Raptors all sorts of
problems last year, and I'd say this Bucks team will do better than last
year's squad.

I'm not ready to say this year's team is definitively better than last, but
I certainly think they are a *different* team. O'Neal's presence has had a
significant impact on D, especially in the paint, and their inside-outside
game looks like it can actually work the way it's supposed to. The shooters
are taking the right shots and the players, in general, appear to be doing
the right things (i.e. in the right spots at the right times). Just my
opinion, three games in.

if you think their schedule has been *very* easy, how do you feel about
Philadelphia?

We don't have a 6-gamer this year. Last year's team would definitely not
be 3-0, probably 2-1.

Hard to say, given that so-so teams like Toronto and Atlanta are a
combined 7-1. I'd say Philly has played lower than my expectations at
this point, but it's still early. Let's see how things shake down
when the Raptors play a good team like Detroit.
