True enough. I'm not sure how much of it is _this_ particular team,
versus how much of it is residual fan-nerdness from rooting for these
guys since the early '70s, versus being a product of this area and
having a natural affinity for underdogs, but yeah, making the playoffs
would be nice.
Regarding the predictions, you know and I know that even if the Sixers
made the playoffs, and then either pulled an all time upset or were at
least competitive in the first round, etc. none of the "experts" who
wrote them off as worse than the Knicks(!) would acknowledge their
mistake.
Sports columnists (and political pundits) must have the best jobs in
America. No matter what they write, no matter how much reality proves
them wrong, they are never held accountable.
