44.9% Magic Johnson
16.7% Kobe Bryant
15.3% Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
13.5% Wilt Chamberlain
5.9% Jerry West
2.0% Shaquille O'Neal
0.9% Elgin Baylor
0.6% George Mikan
0.3% James Worthy

it's sad to see that lakers fans are mostly blind.

kobe is by vote, the 2nd greatest laker player, even above Kareem and Shaq
(2%)

kareem = 6x nba champ, 6x MVP, 2x Finals MVP
Shaq = 3x finals MVP
kobe = 0x finals MVP

blind love

"Greatest Laker" = Jerry West
"Greatest Laker PLAYER" = Magic Johnson

Assuming this is a vote of the players, the voters got #1 right, and
that's what's most "important" (not really, but as much as any of this is
"important"). Kobe, Kareem, and Wilt are more or less bunched together,
which is not outrageous. Sure, Kobe doesn't yet belong ahead of Kareem (who
had 5 championships, 3 MVPs, and 1 Finals MVP with the Lakers; don't trust
Ego for your basketball info).

Kobe does belong ahead of Shaq, though. Some people make way too much
of Finals MVPs, as if Cedric Maxwell is better than Oscar Robertson because
of a Finals MVP. A Finals MVP award reflects how your team matched up
against ONE opponent. A game, and a series, can play out a multitude of
ways. Finals MVP is a nice award, but as a conclusive measure of players'
relative value, it ranks behind several other awards and a few dozen
different stats, IMO.

I can't find any fault with the survey if Magic is occupying the
largest single block of votes.

There might have been a number of statistically superior players, but
has any professional basketball player ever been more fun to watch in
the game than Magic Johnson?

Pistol Pete. But Magic was right up there.

Some of the razzle-dazzle passes that Magic became known for were
pioneered by Maravich, but Magic took it to the next level. Maravich
built the prototype, and Magic perfected it.

Pete Marovich was about the purest of shooters. But he
certainly did not put on the kind of show Magic did. Magic got
the entire team involved by the way he moved the ball around.
It was quite a show to watch. There is just no comparison
between Pete and Magic. Remember... Magic created SHOWTIME!

Haven't you seen any of the posts by Ego?
All he does the full day is compare Kobe to MJ and whine about how
there's no comparison.
I wouldn't expect him to know any more about basketball than my mother
(who knows that 'there's some Shaq guy who plays for the Lakers or
something')

I'm suprised than Elgin Baylor didn't get higher on the list.
But anyway, almost 45% voted for Magic. Which is about right.
