I just wish Alford would try it somewhere else. In my opinion, New
Mexico is repeating this mistake for the 3rd time in a row - assuming
that coach that has been in one of the Big Six conferences is
automatically good. When they hired Fraschilla, he was supposed to be
good because he had been at St. John's. He started UNM's descent.
Then when he got the ax, they hired Ritchie McKay, who was at Oregon
State at the time. Great, we just stole a guy from the Pac-10! (or
else took a guy that was about the get fired). Now, the process is
repeating itself with Alford. They are definitely further down now
than with either of their last two coaching hires, so I suppose it
would be hard to run them much further into the ground, but I don't
see how taking a guy who took Iowa from being a perennial first round
NCAA tournament winner into a team that has 1 NCAA tournament win in 8
years is the way to go. Not for New Mexico, where the expectation is
NCAA tournament every year.
