At the risk of getting giddy over the Sixers' longest winning streak of the
year (2) let us all pause and remember that this was the Knicks we were
playing, and hoo boy does that look like a bad team. Not that anyone asked
me, but I would start David Lee, and move Richardson to the bench. Plus, it
looks to me like Mabury is already retired. If he doesn't want to play any
more, fine, but Thomas should put some one at the point who does. Too bad
the next option is that no-defense-playin'-ball hoggin'- gunner Nate (5-16)
Robinson.
Can we seen any improvement in our heroes that might just translate over to
a win against a respectable team? Hey, even if it only means beating the
Hawks.
Well, maybe. I do like the Coach's apparent change of mind on his rotation,
getting more minutes out of Williams and Smith, and letting Carney and Young
play. This gives us fresher legs on Miller, Dalembert, and Iguadala at the
ends of games where, in the past, the Sixers have fallen apart in games they
could have won. Plus, never discount the value of competition! In the two
Knick games, Willie Green was limited to 20 minutes in each, and he
responded with a composite box score of 15-24 from the floor for 32 points.
Whether it's the reduced workload or the prospect of real competition making
him more efficient, works for me either way. Thaddeus Young shot 7-9 on 19
minutes play last night, and took down 5 boards. Jason Smth took 9 boards
in 24 minutes, excellent. Let's hope the rookies keep getting chances like
this, they will only develop that much faster.
Stay tuned. Monday is the Houston Rockets, we will see if the expanded
rotation can make a difference against a good team. If Lou Williams gets
extended minutes, on the floor with Andre Miller, who guards Tracy McGrady?
Scary thought, ain't it?
