He sucker punched a defenseless fan from out of nowhere. JO's
generally a good guy but he got the penalty he deserves.

No actually that doesn't merit a one game suspension in my eyes. If a fan
gets onto the basketball court and takes a fighting stance against you or
your teammate too f'in bad if he gets hit hard.

I believe that O'Neal did go into the stands briefly and was pulled back by
teammates. That would merit a harsh suspension.

Well,Stern is essentially the appeal process.Given that,and the way they've
played since which is annoying the NBA I'm sure-I don't look for reductions.

I assume you saw the video? The fan got up off the ground from under
a pile of people and before he even had his balance O'Neil clocks
him. Where did you see a fighting stance?

and broke away from him to go punch the guy and may have hit the cop.

Well, the guy who JO punched didn't actually tackle anyone, his friend got
hit by Artest and in the ensuing melee involving Bender etc... he was
knocked to the ground, and as he got up JO hit him.

"The same guy" never tackled Artest, or even touched anyone.

It doesn't matter what stance he had, HE WAS ON THE PLAYING SURFACE!!!!!
I have seen many replays. In none of them did I see any player drag him
out there. If he doesn't want sucker punched stay off the areas where
he's not allowed.

that can't be the end of the discussion. freddie jones was getting beat
senselessly in the stands. was that ok since jones was off the playing
surface?

could there be any reason for that guy to be on the playing surface that
doesn't require him to get hit, like he was running from the brawl? or he
was going to be peacemaker because his friend went out on the floor,
somebody needed to drag him away.

now if the video had captured what the guy said, that might mean something.
but where i come from two guys beating on one guy that isn't fighting back
is generally wrong.

And where was this innocent Pistons fan during the brawl? Oh yeah on the
court approaching the Pacers bench. He was on the court and his buddy had
just tried to take on Artest and got knocked down. He definitely looked like
he wanted to back up his buddy and that's ok with you. But when O'Neal
wanted to either back up his buddy or himself that's wrong....hmmm.

Like I said if O'Neal went into the stands or hit a police officer than he
deserves what he got but if it were just this altercation with the Pistons
fan that was considered than he got a bad deal.
