I think I recall reading that BD has a Kentucky specific out clause in his

Donovan to UK is a done deal and has been in the works for weeks.
Funny that they had no clue that tubby was leaving just a few days
ago.

The name that occurred to me when I first heard about this was
Gillispie. Don't know if he'd leave A&M this soon, but I don't think
anyone is as hot as he is right now.
Andy Katz mentioned Few and Crean as top candidates (not sure what he
was basing that on).
Not sure what the fascination with Crean is. He did make it to the
Final Four once, but that was with this guy named Wade, who we've
since found it is a pretty damned good basketball player. What has he
really done otherwise?
Also, what with the complaints about Tubby's recruiting (where else
have I heard that before?), I'd think they'd want a guy who's shown
that he can get some top recruits. (I don't think Crean is
outstanding in that regard either.)
Most likely they'll at least make an attempt at Donovan. Can't hurt
(although they may not want to make that publicly known -- as often
happens when a school has to ask for permission to talk to someone --
unless they think they have a real shot at him). Who knows how
Donovan feels about it -- or rather, will feel when Florida's season
is over. Which of course could depend on how Florida finishes.
This has been an amazing week coaching-wise. When was the last time
coaches from two major programs, one of them elite, left on their own
to take positions at less prestigious schools. (Although how secure
they felt in their current positions was likely a factor in their
decisions.)

Really? Why? I think it'd be hard to beat the sun and the ladies and
all that jazz. Although tOSU does have lots of boosters willing to put
players up in cush jobs at auto dealerships.

Actually April and May are extremely nice and quite dry in
Gainesville. A typical day will have highs in the mid 80's F. July
and August are a different story, but it will cool off every night and
be pleasant.
I have also lived in Urbana when it gets hot and humid there it is far
worse than anything I have ever experienced in Gainesville. It is
extremely rare to get hotter than the low to mid 90's F.

Heh. Actually, I had seen Matta's name mentioned (maybe not here).
But I thought he had responded with a fairly definite (if not quite
totally definite) "not interested" when asked about it.
Besides, he's arguably got a better situation at Ohio State than he
would at Kentucky, especially with the added pressure he'd have there.
Maybe even better than Donovan at Florida (I think all told getting
recruits to Ohio State is easier than to Florida; besides, it seems
like Matta's got five star recruits lined up for the next ten years).
Which is why I'd guess that Donovan is more likely than Matta.

I think people have already commented on the rationality of the
Kentucky fanbase (or the sufficiently rabid fanbase of any school, for
that matter).

Yeah, you'd think that'd be a big plus for them.
Anyway, it's mainly just based on my impression. Donovan's obviously
done a good job recruiting, but before that how many big name players
went there? OSU has had lots of good to great players, under a number
of different coaches. I don't think of Florida as a basketball
recruiting hotbed, and besides, OSU has a number of other nearby
states (and/or that are within the conference area) to recruit from.
Obviously they're both big football schools, but I think Florida has
more of an imbalance between the two sports (historically, if not
currently). OSU has more basketball history and tradition.
I found this site:
http://www.insidehoops.com/high-school.shtml
which contains the following:
InsideHoops.com High School Basketball State Rankings
Updated Dec. 6, 2004
Factoring in the last 15 years of top teams each state has produced:
Boys Teams: #1 California, #2 New York, #3 Texas, #4 Illinois, #5
Virginia, #6 Pennsylvania, #7 Michigan, #8 Florida, #9 Ohio, #10
Indiana ... Honorable Mention: North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky.
Girls Teams: #1 California, #2 Texas, #3 Tennessee, #4 New York,
#5 Illinois.
So perhaps Florida high school basketball is better than I thought
(rated #8), but the point still remains about OSU's recruiting area
(Illinois #4, Pennsylvania #6, Michigan #7, Ohio #9, Indiana #10).
Oh, there's also that OSU has much less nearby competition (i.e.,
schools trying to recruit the players). There aren't really any other
high major programs in Ohio, but there are in Florida.
