Once in a career....=) He can not hit the open jumpers. he is shooting under
40%, Dale his usual over 50%.
that's gotta say something about his future in this league,

I would say it is the defense in general and the lack of someone to run the
offense efficiently. I think center is not a huge problem.

ya think? I think Reg stayed in Indiana b/c they saw his value. Anything
trash reg talked, he backed up with hustle, passion, effort. I think you
make a bad comparison b/c Rice was always a guy who demanded more. If he
wasn't getting enough shots, he wanted to go to a team that would let him be
a ballhog. Rice is a prick, reggie's all heart. Rice definitely had his
moments, but he was far less of a team player in my opinion. Reggie's far
more valuable. Rice is now just hoping to stay on a team that'll cut him a
paycheck.

but nobody's pumping him up to be an all-star or anything, so he's not
really overrated. I think a player is only overrated if he's getting
undeserving accolades or credit. Christie would fall into my role player or
productive categories, not a star by any means, but more of an asset than a
liability. he does a lot of intangibles that keep him in the starting
lineup for a team rich with talent. I mean, if they were really unhappy
with him, they could go small and have bobby jackson in the backcourt with
bibby, or they could try wallace at SG, or even use peeler. but the utility
man survives. it's just like bruce bowen in san antonio. nothing special,
but an asset defensively. despite his poor shooting, he stays in the
starting lineup... he just don't shoot that much, so he's not really a
liability. decent role player.

lol. he explodes all the time, but I don't consider him a liability at all.
I think his value to the pacers is similar to rasheed's in portland.

yea, maybe, but I think there's enough interest in portland that we may pull
a trade as opposed to just dumping him and his salary at season's end. we
either better resign him or trade him fast. if we just flat out lose him,
i'd have to say we're pretty stupid... and if we could workout a deal with
utah for Kiri, that's better than nothing and I think he'd be an incredible

They are both well past prime. Not the point. It was the similar style of
game I was refering to. Rice also needed some screens to run off of to get
open shots. In LA in the triple post he did not fit. Remember in the WCF
game that Jackson did run screen plays for him got them a win in Portland.

He is a liablity when he argues with his coach and gets suspended. When he
comits flagrants that hurt players and gets suspended...Reminds me more of
Bonzi.

The salaries do not match by 16.2 million. Utah would have to throw in
Clark, Tag and Rice....
And unless 'Sheed promised to stay why would they give up a good player they
have signed cheap for at least 2 more years plus the inside track on
keeping?

i think it's our #1 problem as far as personnel goes. from a team
standpoint, definitely defense.

I think he was the mothman himself.

very bizarre. surreal in fact... it's one of those movies that has you

Who cares, it is a subjective vote. My point was Christie did get acolades
which IMO makes him overated.

Rasheed is not fighting with his coach.
Artest reminds me more of Bonzi, Portland could have got a lot more for
Bonzi if they had not waited for him to blow up again.

Interesting quote for Jerry West:
"The way I used to judge him was by how he competed against Kobe Bryant.
Most people compete against him for a while and then they don't compete
against him anymore. He competed against him all the time," West said. "He's
not afraid. Not afraid to take the big shots. Not afraid to make a play."

I agree. That would be a LOT better than nothing. He has been playing some
PF this year because Utah is weak at that position (and they already have
Harpring at SF) but I think he's better suited to the SF spot and would be
a good fit here. BTW, there was a nice feature on AK47 after tonight's game
on TNT.
> The salaries do not match by 16.2 million. Utah would have to throw in

Not quite. This is one deal I would like even better than the one with
Atlanta that I mentioned a while back, so I checked it with RealGM.
Because Utah is so far under cap, a trade of Wallace for Ostertag and
Kirilenko would work. (I figured since the Jazz would be losing a center
and have had injury problems at that position I would also try to throw
one of Portland low-priced centers into the deal, but RBB, Stepania, and
Vranes are all listed as having various trade restrictions).
> And unless 'Sheed promised to stay why would they give up a good player they

That's the thing. As good as it might be for Portland, I don't see any way
Utah makes this deal. I don't think Jerry Sloan and Larry Miller would want
Wallace in the first place, and even if they did then as you said they could
just wait and try to sign him this summer with some of their FA money and not
have to give up Kirilenko. >> Stay informed about: trade rumors |

duh, what's your point, that it's more educational to read news instead of
watching?
I may as well turn off the tv and just read all the articles online to learn
who's good and who's bad. Virtually ever owner will say good things about
their players, especially after a trade. What's he going to say, Bonzi's a
head case, we're sorry the S.O.B is here, but we'll groom the guy or kick
his ass to the pavement? >> Stay informed about: trade rumors |

Sure never listen to great HOF player/GMs opinion about players, what the
hell could they have to offer in forming an opinion?

I respect what West says period. He is not one to give praise lightly and it
is rare.
West is a great basketball mind, so I thought it was an interesting quote.
(Just in case you ask my point again)

From Toad...
I saw that too. Kiri's a good guy. He understands his role and he's doing
more than his share to help the team. positive outlook. great great great
team player. fans are going to warm up more and more to these foreigners as
more people like kiri, manu, dirk, parker, and the like come into this
league and perform as they have.

From Toad...
interesting indeed. the Jazz haven't always been happy with Ostertag, but
he's worked his way into a respectible role player and quite frankly, he's
proven he's all they got in the post. He can put a body on shaq, so in a
sense, he is an asset to them now.
they do have jarron collins to breed.... 2nd year player. they have keon
clark hurt and should be back soon. they've also got rookie borchardt hurt
and 3rd year player ruffin who can play some center, so they have thought
about the future and when keon's back, he could take minutes away from
ostertag, but at 280 lbs, he's the biggest body they got till they can get
curtis healthy and breed collins (255 lbs). and when that day comes, they
might be more apt to trade a guy like ostertag, but that don't help us now.

yea, I don't see it happening. wishful thinking. glad everyone agree's
about Kiri though. solid player, bright future. would make a good
replacement for rasheed. >> Stay informed about: trade rumors |

They wanted to shed him for a long time for his contract. However they are
now way under the cap, are having a better than expected season and his
contract ends this year.

They going to breed him to a WNBA player to get a center? =)

And Sloan's wife has cancer, I doubt with the distraction he would want to
shake up his team right now.

Sloan is the coach and that distraction can't stop him from coaching. she
asked him to continue coaching. From what I understood, Jerry wanted to
temporarily step down and be by her side through this.
Everyone (including the Jazz themselves) know they're a borderline playoff
team and in no way a contender. They can ride out their young team, hope
they improve in the future and maybe contend, but I think most know they
need some help. So, if they wanna continue their road to mediocrity, Sloan
will do nothing, but he's a coach and has to work through the distraction.
If he can't or don't, he should step down... temporarily.
that's my take. >> Stay informed about: trade rumors |

I'm not writing off the merit of those stats completely, but frahm and
peeler have no business on that list. they don't even start. most their
minutes are against garbage players at garbage time... hardly a gauge.
furthermore, it's only 1 season. Maybe he won't be all defensive team this
year, thus you won't have a reason to call him overrated. I'm not saying
he's a great player, but I do think he's a pretty solid defender and those
stats don't speak about the general sentiments of others in the league. I
mean, I think if you talked to the players themselves and had them rank who
they think give them fits, christie might be up on their lists b/c he is an
in your face player with long arms who makes you work. And if I'm a player,
I'd worry more about facing Christie than guys like brent barry, hamilton,
even redd, richardson, and mobley. but that's just me. I think Christie is
more experienced and more polished than all those guys. I noticed Bowen's
not on that list. maybe b/c he's playing some SF? Same with Artest. I
think when reg is out of the league, artest is the 2 with harrington at SF,
but we'll see. pacers may get freddie in there and keep Al as 6th man. >> Stay informed about: trade rumors |

The list is a minumin of 21 games and 23 minutes per game.
Bench players are judged against the opponents bench players. While a couple
may sneak in that do not belong off the stats, we are talking 15 and barely
above average on Dougie.

The first season he was voted to an all defensive team (he was 2nd team the
last 2 years) he was 11th among SGs on this list. And the vote is for
guards, not divided.

So the offensive stats of his matchups are a poor indication compared to
preception?

Kobe a year ago or so said Bowen, Eric Snow and the Portland combo (Bonzi
and Patterson).
And if I'm a player,

Just his opponents score more while he is looking good guarding them with
his hands...=)
I noticed Bowen's

They are on the SF list Artest 2nd at 11.53 and 7.78 for Bowen in 11th
compared to 4.65 for doug.
KG #1 at at SF and overall at 18.03 (+6 over the next highest in the league
Duncan) .
