they could be their problem too (besides the players) no coach has stayed
longer then 2 years....they need someone who will stick around and get
quality players to make this team a team to contend with..

What we need is a center. Vicki Bullett was filling in at that spot, but
now she is gone. I think the team also misses the leadership Vicki
supplied.

Vicky was an above average veteran - hustle and stats galore, lots of
rebounds, blocks, steals and average points...but at least she was
always going AFTER it, not waiting around for something to develop.
I am still shaking my head that DC didn't pick up a truly experienced
veteran in the dispersal, and am surprised they haven't jumped on Byers,
despite her problems. Look at DC - they have many others in town who
have various problems with the law, and still are elected to positions
of power. ;-)

The fact that no team has jumped on Byears suggests that the problems she
brings are more trouble than they're worth. Marianne Stanley coached Byears in
LA so that could be all she wrote. >> Stay informed about: washington mystics |

At least the Mystics didn't draft "Marion Jones" like Phoenix did.

Given Byears' two year league leading .607 FG percentage for the two time
WNBA champions, nothing short of a capital offense like first degree murder
should be keeping her from being signed by another team. Of course,
Sophia Witherspoon wasn't exactly pounced on by another WNBA team
when the Sparks didn't sign her at the beginning of the season, either.
I think the real problem is the salary cap.
Teams like New York and Washington would have all star
teams if everyone was a true free agent.

I think not. I believe Byears was
traded to L.A. from Sacramento after
Stanley left the Sparks after the end of the
2000 season. >> Stay informed about: washington mystics |

As a Mystics season ticket holder, I have mixed feelings about
how bad they are this year. Sure, it's often painful to go to the
games and watch them lose, but I have to admit that if a team's going
to be bad, this may well be the best year to be bad. Granted, the new
lottery system doesn't guarantee anything, but the graduating college
field will be outstanding next year. >> Stay informed about: washington mystics |

I like your attitude, there is always next year ... just look at the difference
with the Shock team from last year. I truly enjoy watching Stacy Dale
and their coach was right on last year, but I don't know about pulling in
Latasha ... a bit too physical for my likings. I prefer the woman win with
skill and finase (sp?) vs. physical strength ... just my opinion.

Speaking of the Shock, that reminds me of something I've been
meaning to mention. When the ABL folded several years ago, their
players were folded into the draft along with the college players.
Teams that were bad the previous year still only got one good pick.
Then this year, with several WNBA teams folding, we get two drafts so
that teams that were bad last year actually get two good picks. So
last year was actually a very good year to be bad as well, despite the
fact that the college graduating class wasn't quite as stellar as next
year's will be.

The Mystics did not take advantage of an opportunity in the dispersal draft
to get a player they needed. I don't see the Mystics doing any better in
next year's college draft. This is going to be the greatest graduating class
in NCAAW history, supposedly. I think the Mystics will blow it somehow.
Detroit got Cheryl Ford in the college draft, drafting third. This was
supposed to be a bad college year, but Detroit scored a coup.

If they somehow get first pick, the only way they could really blow it is if
they don't take Taurasi, which should be a given.
I don't think she'll be available to them, but the Sparks like Hoffman. >> Stay informed about: washington mystics |

sport for a long, long time.
