Dozens of brain-dead punks who smashed windows, tore out street signs and
set fires after the Celtics [team stats] clinched the NBA crown this week
escaped arrest but could still be brought to justice thanks to reams of
video footage.
Hub cops are scouring tapes from surveillance cameras around the city as
well as video turned over by local media outlets in a bid to track down
vicious vandals.
"We have detectives actively reviewing footage," said Boston police
spokesman Officer Eddy Chrispin. "We're trying to identify any individuals
in the act of destroying property." If police are able to identify hoodlums,
they will be sent a summons to appear in court, Chrispin added.
In addition to video footage, cops may also turn to cyberspace, where
several videos have been posted showing mobs of post-Game 6 revelers
wreaking havoc.
In one YouTube clip, hundreds of green-clad clowns erupt into cheers as
street signs are hurled through plate glass windows on Friend Street. In
another, fans uproot trees while the testosterone-fueled crowd chants for
women to expose themselves.
Hooligans caused thousands of dollars in damages to the offices of Greater
Boston Legal Services, which provides attorneys for low-income people, and a
travel agency. Vandals also toppled barricades, ripped down signs at the TD
Banknorth Garden and destroyed newspaper boxes throughout downtown during
the post-game revelry.
